Beading Calculators
How many beads do you need to make a bracelet or necklace?
Planning a beading project? Whether you're making one bracelet or a whole batch of necklaces, it's important to know how many beads you'll need. We’re often asked this question — especially by makers creating multiple pieces.
To help, we’ve created a simple bead calculator that works it out for you! Just enter your bead size and finished length, and the calculator will do the rest.
✅ Tip: We recommend allowing an extra 10% to cover design changes, mistakes, or spares — that way, you won’t run short midway through your project!
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know what size beads to use for my bracelet or necklace?
Smaller beads (like 4mm) are great for delicate designs, while 8mm and larger beads make bold, chunky pieces. Check that your cord or wire fits the bead holes comfortably.
How many 6mm beads do I need for an 18cm bracelet?
You’ll need around 30 x 6mm beads. Our calculator gives a precise count — and adjusts for clasp size or design variations!
What length should I make my bracelet or necklace?
Bracelets are usually 18–20cm for adults. For necklaces, 45cm is standard. Longer styles like 60cm or 75cm work well for layering.
Can I use this calculator for stretch bracelets or memory wire?
Yes! The calculator works for single-strand designs, including stretch cord and memory wire. Just add a bit extra for knots or loops.
How much extra should I allow when buying beads in bulk?
We suggest buying 10% extra to cover mistakes, spacing, and pattern repeats. It’s always better to have a few beads left over than not enough!
