Baby Memories Pendant Necklace: Project Instructions

Using a glass cameo and cameo setting, you can preserve memories of your little one using this simple technique. Follow our easy instructions to learn how to make your own baby memories pendant necklace.

MATERIALS REQUIRED

  • 1 x 30mm round clear glass cameo
  • 4cm square sticky backed felt
  • 1 x 30mm plain round cameo silver setting
  • lock of baby hair
  • 1.3m x nylon knotting cord
  • 2.6m x thin white ribbon

TOOLS REQUIRED

  • E-6000
  • Beadsmith Jewel Setter
  • Scissors

INSTRUCTIONS

Using a glass cameo as a template, draw around the outside edge on the back face of the sticky backed felt. Cut the felt exactly to size, ensuring you cut away all of the drawn on line. Remove the backing from the felt and glue to the front of the metal cameo setting.

Take your lock of baby hair and apply a dab of glue to a spot at the top of the felt, and glue in place. Cut off a 6cm length of nylon knotting cord and fashion into a bow. Glue in place above the lock of hair. Allow 4 hours for the glue to dry.

Run a fine line of glue around the inside edge of the metal cameo and wait 5 minutes for the glue to become tacky. Clean the glass cameo and press into place. Apply a weight (such as a heavy book) on top and leave for an hour.

Cut your white ribbon in half, then create a ribbon necklace by gathering together the two white ribbons and the coloured nylon knotting cord. Tie a knot at one end of each of the strings, followed by another knot, tying all three strings together approximately 11cm from the end. Decide upon the length of your necklace, remembering that you will be tying the strings into a bow at the back. Cut to size.

Make another knot, tying the three strings together, 11cm from the other end of the strings, then knot each end individually. Place a dab of glue at the end of each string to stop fraying. Thread on your pendant. Tie onto your neck with a large bow. Your necklace is now ready to wear!
