Brown Shell Necklace: Project Instructions
This necklace features MOP shell beads and glass crystals. We have changed things up, and used the toggle clasp at the front; this serves two purposes - it looks great as a focal, and makes the necklace easier to fasten!
MATERIALS REQUIRED
- 12 round disc shell beads
- 1 heart toggle clasp
- 6 strong jump rings
- 1 x 60cm tigertail, 3 x 15cm tigertail
- 8 filigree metal tubes
- 31 x 6mm bicone glass crystal beads
- 3 shell tear drop beads
- 15 shell cube beads
- 54 plain metal beads
- 8 small crimps
TOOLS REQUIRED
- Crimping Pliers
- Wire Cutters
- Twirly Wirlies
INSTRUCTIONS
The Pattern
(you'll need this for most of the necklace)
- a 6mm bicone glass crystal
- a plain metal bead
- a shell cube bead
- a plain metal bead
- a 6mm bicone glass crystal
- a plain metal bead
- a round disc shell bead
- a plain metal bead
The main part of the necklace
Pick up the 60cm strand of tigertail. Thread on a small crimp, a jump ring, then thread back through the crimp. Pull up tightly and squish down the crimp. Cut off any excess tigertail. Thread on a filigree metal tube. Then thread on the pattern (as above) 10 times, so you have a total of 10 round disc shell beads.
Then thread on:
- a 6mm bicone glass crystal
- a plain metal bead
- a shell cube bead
- a plain metal bead
- a 6mm bicone glass crystal
Finally, thread on a filigree metal tube, followed by a small crimp, a jump ring, then back through the crimp. Pull up tightly and squish down the crimp. Cut off any excess tigertail.
Open up another jump ring. Thread on the bar part of the toggle clasp, then thread through one of the jump rings on the end of the strand. Close securely. Open the jump ring on the other end of the strand, thread on the heart part of the toggle clasp (thread through the loop at the top of the heart) and close securely.
Drop 1
Take one of the 15cm pieces of tigertail. Thread on a crimp, thread through a jump ring, then back through the crimp. Pull up tightly and squish down the crimp. Cut off the excess tigertail. Thread on a filigree metal tube. Follow with:
- a 6mm bicone glass crystal
- a plain metal bead
- a shell cube bead
- a plain metal bead
- a 6mm bicone glass crystal
- a plain metal bead
- a round disc shell bead
- a plain metal bead
- a 6mm bicone glass crystal
- a plain metal bead
- a shell cube bead
- a plain metal bead
- a 6mm bicone glass crystal
Finish by threading on a crimp, a filigree metal tube, a jump ring, then back through the filigree metal tube and crimp. Pull up tightly and squish down the crimp. Cut off the excess tigertail. Open up the jump ring slightly and thread on one of the shell tear drop beads, then close the jump ring securely.
Drop 2
Take the next 15cm length of tigertail and thread on a crimp, thread through a jump ring, then back through the crimp. Pull up tightly and squish down the crimp. Cut off the excess tigertail. Thread on a filigree metal tube. Follow with:
- a 6mm bicone glass crystal
- a plain metal bead
- a round disc shell bead
- a plain metal bead
- a 6mm bicone glass crystal
- a plain metal bead
- a shell cube bead
- a plain metal bead
- a 6mm bicone glass crystal

Open up the jump ring slightly and thread on one of the shell tear drop beads, then close the jump ring securely.
Drop 3
Take the last 15cm length of tigertail and thread on a crimp, thread through a jump ring, then back through the crimp. Pull up tightly and squish down the crimp. Cut off the excess tigertail. Thread on a filigree metal tube. Follow with:
- a 6mm bicone glass crystal
- a plain metal bead
- a shell cube bead
- a plain metal bead
- a 6mm bicone glass crystal
Finish by threading on a crimp, a filigree metal tube, a jump ring, then back through the filigree metal tube and crimp. Pull up tightly and squish down the crimp. Cut off the excess tigertail. Open up the jump ring slightly and thread on one of the shell tear drop beads, then close the jump ring securely.
Putting it together
Open up the jump ring on the end of drop 1 and thread through the heart part (the main heart) of the toggle clasp. Close securely. Repeat with drops 2 and 3. Your necklace is now ready to wear!
