Rose Purple Butterfly Drop Necklace: Project Instructions
This drop chain necklace features five strand heart drops and cute pressed glass butterfly beads. Techniques involved include turning loops, working with chain and more.
MATERIALS REQUIRED
- 5 butterfly glass beads
- 5 x 5-strand heart drops
- 1 parrot clasp
- 29 jump rings
- 10 plain metal beads
- 5 head pins
- 90cm medium oval loop chain
TOOLS REQUIRED
- Twirly Wirlie Pliers
- Crimping Pliers
- Wire Cutters
INSTRUCTIONS
Pick up a head pin and thread on:
- a plain metal bead
- a butterfly glass bead ("tail down")
- a plain metal bead
Leaving a space of 10mm, cut the excess off the head pin. Twirl the end using your twirly wirlies. Repeat the process another 4 times, until you have used all of the butterfly glass beads. Put aside.
Open up a jump ring, and thread through the top loop in the 5 strand heart drop. Close securely. Open up another jump ring, and thread on one of the butterfly drops made earlier. Thread through the middle loop on the 5 strand heart drop. Close securely. Repeat this process (the jump ring at the top, and the butterfly drop at the bottom) for all five of the 5 strand heart drops.
Pick up the length of chain. Cut off:
- 6 lengths of 5cm
- 6 lengths of 7cm, and
- 2 lengths of 3cm
Open up a jump ring, and thread on two of the 5cm lengths of chain, and the jump ring from the top of one of the heart drops. Close securely. Open up another jump ring, and thread:
- through the last loop in one of the 5cm lengths of chain just used
- through the jump ring at the top of one of the heart drops, and
- through the first loop in another piece of 5cm chain
Close securely. Repeat this process, until you have used all of the heart drops. You should end up with a length of chain that looks like:
[5cm length of chain] [jump ring with heart drop] [5cm length of chain] [jump ring with heart drop] [5cm length of chain] [jump ring with heart drop] [5cm length of chain] [jump ring with heart drop] [5cm length of chain] [jump ring with heart drop] [5cm length of chain]
Open up another jump ring, and thread through the first loop of the first 5cm piece of chain. Whilst it is open, also thread on one of the 3cm pieces of chain, and one of the 7cm pieces of chain. Close securely. Open up another jump ring and attach to the end of the 7cm piece of chain just used. Whilst it is still open, thread through the first loop in the bottom of the first heart drop. Close securely.
Open up another jump ring, and thread it through the last loop in the bottom of the first heart drop. Whilst open, attach another 7cm piece of chain. Close securely. On the other end of the chain, attach a jump ring, and join it to the first loop in the second heart drop. Close securely. Repeat this process with each of the 7cm lengths of chain, joining one end to the last loop in the bottom of a heart drop, and the other end to the first loop in the bottom of the next heart drop.
You should finish with a length of 7cm chain, with the first link joining to the last loop of the last heart drop. Open a jump ring, and join to the last link in the chain. Whilst it is still open, thread on the last link of the last 5cm piece of chain, and the other end of the 3cm piece of chain. Close securely.
Add a jump ring to one of the necklace. At the other end of the necklace, add a jump ring with a parrot clasp attached. Close securely. Your necklace is now ready to wear!
