40cm strand (approximately 48 beads) of agate round beads, each bead is approximately 8mm x 8mm.
Agate has been popular for thousands of years - it was named by the Greek philosopher Theophrastus sometime between the 4th and 3rd centuries BCE. Over the years it has been used as beads (obviously!) and ornaments and also as the main stone for hardstone carvings. Agate is a form of quartz: quartz can be split into two main groups - crystalline varieties (quartz, amethyst etc) and cryptocrystalline varieties (chalcedony, jasper, agate etc).
Agate is well known for readily taking on colour enhancements and these beads have been dyed a deep orange colour, giving them a beautiful carnelian tone. The natural banding features of the agate gemstone shine through the colour, giving a varied aspect to these beads - some beads are a strong orange colour, whilst others are a soft warm honey colour.
Agate is often used to settle the body, mind and spirit. It is said to abolish negativity and strengthen the aura. Agate is also considered to be a calming and relaxing stone, able to heal inner tension, creating a greater feeling of inner peace.
Please note that colours and sizes within semi-precious gemstones vary slightly from strand to strand.
